A Chinese research team develops a light robot drone with a targeted special mission scenario of the Mars exploration.

The air-earthly dual-purple-unspoken aircraft (UAV) weighs only 3.6 ounces (300 grams), which corresponds to the weight of an apple. The development team is at the School of Astronautics (SoA) of the Harbin Institute of Technology.

The UAV is a promising potential in future Mars science work and can withdraw at any time, cross obstacles and have excellent perseverance, reports the state China Central Television (CCTV).

“It mainly rolls on the ground by relocating its focus,” said Zhu Yimin, a Ph.D candidate at SOA.

“In the air, it is based on a few contra-rotating coaxial rotors that are controlled by a steering engine to adjust the forward direction, to control torque and strength and ultimately achieve a stable flight,” Zhu told CCTV to CCTV.

Several models

The UAV work includes several models of Air-floor dual fashion robots with different configurations, CCTV reports. These robots move by rolling near the floor, which reduces energy consumption and can achieve a flight duration of more than six times as high as conventional drones of the same size.

According to Zhang Lixian, a professor in the SOA, hope that the aircraft can show its long endurance and observation skills on Mars.

“Our second goal is that such machines are suitable for construction in many underground rooms and for exploring unknown underground rooms. We also need robots for inspection and environmental recognition. We have now materialized all of these functions,” said Zhang.

Nasa ingenuity

The Chinese air drone work follows a different approach than the NASA helicopter Mars Mars. This autonomous aircraft in history, which carried out on Mars flight and 72 flights within Jezero Crater for almost three years.

The ingenuity of the NASA endurance of NASA has weighed £ 4 on earth (1.81 kilograms), which corresponds to Mars £ 1.5 (0.68 kg).

The ingenuity raised the first time on April 19, 2021 and made its last flight on January 18, 2024. On flight 72, the rotor blades on the vehicle were damaged during the landing and the vehicle was permanently grounded.

The first aircraft in another world flew more than 14 times than planned, while it registered the overall flight time for more than two hours.
