Description:
Join us for a full-day Community Mediation Workshop designed to equip residents and local stakeholders with practical tools and techniques to peacefully resolve conflicts in everyday life. This workshop is part of our ongoing efforts to promote mediation as an alternative to confrontation and to build stronger, more harmonious communities.
The day will begin with an introductory session exploring the basics of mediation: what it is, how it works, and why it matters. Participants will learn about the principles that guide mediation—neutrality, confidentiality, and voluntary participation—and understand the benefits of this process in reducing tensions in public spaces, collective housing, and neighborhood relations.
Mid-morning, attendees will engage in interactive role-playing exercises. These practical simulations allow participants to experience firsthand the mediator’s role and the importance of active listening, empathy, and open communication. Each role-play will be followed by group discussions to share insights and reflect on the challenges and opportunities presented.
After a lunch break, the afternoon sessions will focus on applying mediation techniques to common community conflicts. Scenarios such as disputes between neighbors, misunderstandings in collective housing, and conflicts involving youth participation will be explored in depth. Participants will learn how to structure mediation sessions, ask open-ended questions, and guide parties toward mutually agreeable solutions.
The workshop will also address how to identify when mediation is appropriate, and when other forms of intervention may be necessary. We will highlight the importance of respecting cultural differences and adapting mediation approaches accordingly.
The day will conclude with a Q&A session and the creation of an action plan for participants to implement mediation in their own neighborhoods or workplaces. Participants will receive printed materials summarizing key points, and contact information for ongoing support from AIDAN.
This workshop is open to all residents of Vigneux-sur-Seine and neighboring areas, including community leaders, social workers, educators, and anyone interested in conflict resolution. Prior registration is encouraged to ensure a place, but attendance is free.
By participating in this event, you become part of a growing network of community members committed to promoting peaceful coexistence, respect, and dialogue. Together, we can build safer, more inclusive spaces where everyone feels heard and valued.
