Engaging Youth – Listening, Trusting, Empowering

Young people are not just the future; they are the present. They live in the same neighborhoods, face the same challenges, and carry the same aspirations as adults. Yet, too often, youth voices are dismissed, their experiences ignored, and their potential underestimated.

At AIDAN, we believe in the power of youth. We work to engage them as full participants in their communities—not only as beneficiaries of social programs but as actors of change. Our work with youth focuses on dialogue, responsibility, and empowerment.

We begin by listening. Young people often feel that institutions do not understand or respect them. We create spaces where they can speak freely, share their views, and connect with others. We encourage them to reflect on their environment and explore how they can shape it.

Next, we support them in taking initiative. This may involve community projects, peer mediation, neighborhood activities, or awareness campaigns. We help them develop skills, take on responsibility, and discover the satisfaction of seeing their ideas come to life.

Importantly, we also intervene in contexts of tension or conflict involving youth—whether in public spaces, schools, or residential areas. We act not as disciplinarians, but as facilitators who help restore communication and build bridges between generations or institutions.

Youth engagement is not about controlling young people; it is about trusting them. When youth feel included, respected, and valued, they rise to the occasion. They become collaborators in building stronger, more peaceful communities.
