While the eyes of Firefly Aerospace’s mission control for the company’s first attempt to land on the moon, some small models of the Blue Ghost Lander can find out under the consoles.
As it turned out, the miniatures were not only placed there, but also built there – and they can put together their own.
“On the day we delivered it, they put them together outside of mission control,” said Trina Patterson, Vice President for Marketing and Communication at Firefly Aerospace, in an interview with CollectSpace.com. “In the quieter times during this mission, they put together the little Legos.”

Although the Blue Ghost Mission 1 Building Blocks Set does not use an official LEGO brand product, Lego-like bricks are used to a detailed version of the robot probe of 1/18. To form scale. Firefly worked with Business Bricks to produce the custom set.
Partly developed to support the Outreach activities of Firefly -for example, some of the Kits are prices in Firefly’s “Moonwalk Contest” for the epic smartphone app from Player -they can also be purchased for 54.99 US dollars via the company’s online merch shop.

Mission 1 model
The Blue Ghost Lander, which was named after a fire flyer type, left the earth on January 15th and is to land on the moon on Sunday (March 2 March) on the moon in mare crystal (“Sea of Crises”) on the moon. Assuming a successful touchdown, the “Ghost Riders in the Sky” mission will begin two weeks of science with 10 NASA-ready instruments that are conducted on board.
The compilation of the Blue Ghost block version contains the merging of several of these payloads.
“It has Lexi above,” said Patterson, pointing out a lead from the upper deck of the model.
Lexi or the heliosphetic X -ray image of the lunar environment is intended to examine the interaction of sun wind and earth’s magnetic field, which drives geomagnetic disorders and storms.

Lugre (Lunar GnSS -Receumer -Experiment), a recipient who follows the GPS and Galileo navigation satellites during a full moon day on the surface is also followed in the build. NGLR (next generation moon sprore defect), a mirror device to measure the distance between the earth and the moon; and RAC (regolith adherence characterization), an experiment to compare the stickiness of the moon floor on different materials.
Other instruments that fly as part of the Clows Lunar Payoad Services (Clows -Lunar Payoad Services) of the NASA (CLPS) -KLPS initiative, which, however, were too small to model or are not visible, include a pneumatic drill to measure the heat flow from the interior of the moon (Lister). a mondregolith sample collection demonstrator (Lunar Planetvac); And a stereo camera to grasp the effects of the rocket flag on the moon regoliths when the lander descends.
LANDER components that are also recreated in bricks include the X-Band antenna (installed next to Lucre and NGLR); Three solar collectors that give the NASA instruments of electricity; eight reaction control system (RCS) engines; Four shock -absorbing legs and the main engine on its base.

While the set building blocks are specially configured for the “Ghost Riders in the Sky” mission, Patterson expects other kits to follow when more Blue Ghost Landers are started to the moon.
“It is definitely something we want to continue to go forward,” she said.
Of pull -out and a duck
The building blocks with Blue Ghost Mission 1 are completed with a supplied sticker leaf that adds details about the instruments of Lucre and NGLR to the solar collectors (which is marked on the sheet as a “upper antenna thing” and which refers to the placement with the X-Band antenna) and the Firefly logo.
A decal that is not included is “Duckner”.
“We have a mascot in Firefly and he was everywhere. He appeared in many of our test pictures,” Patterson told CollectSpace. “It is a duck called ‘Duckner’ and it’s on the landing.”
“It’s a small Easter egg,” she said.

It is also a scientific experiment. The small image of the yellow rubber ducky is printed on a inexpensive material to see how it deals with the extreme environment of space. Duckner is attached under the edge of the X-Band antenna, so it can be seen in photos that are sent back by Blue Ghost.
“We have to have some stickers printed and add it to a later version [of the model kit]”Patterson said with a laugh.
