WBCSD starts a game book for acceleration of food and nutritional security through grocery attachment

Food is the basis of health and for culture, productivity and human potential of essential importance. In today’s food systems, however, more than 3 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet, and over 2 billion suffer from micronutrient deficiency, often without realizing it. This “hidden hunger” occurs when there are no essential vitamins and minerals and leads to weakened immune systems, an impaired cognitive development and increased risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and type -2 diabetes. At the same time, food production is a main driver for climate change, loss of biological diversity and social inequalities. The transformation of food systems to sustainable, fair and healthier is to ensure food and nutritional security for everyone.

Although there is no single solution for the resolutions of global food system challenges-we need a variety of tools-is a proven, scalable and inexpensive strategy that plays an important role in improving global nutrition. By adding essential vitamins and minerals to everyday foods, attachment helps to close nutrient gaps, improve public health and to contribute to a more comprehensive shift to healthier and more sustainable diets. However, the further development of the fastening effort requires cooperation in areas, strong regulatory framework and consumer awareness.

Lack of micronutrients as part of the transformation of the food systems

Micronutrient deficiencies are exacerbated by climate change, which reduces the availability of nutrient -rich foods and by economic obstacles that make many diverse, nutritious diets inaccessible. These shortcomings influence the population with low and medium -sized incomes, they are a global problem, since people in all regions and income levels are missing sufficiently essential micronutrients. The urgency of this problem recognized the World Health Assembly and called for stronger efforts to prevent micronutrient deficiencies through a safe and effective attachment of food. Attachment is an inexpensive, scientifically supported intervention, which can help to close the nutrient gap on a large scale. However, it is not an independent intervention, but must be embedded in a broader approach of the food systems, which includes dietary diversity, responsible procurement and sustainable production practices.

Practical guidance for companies

The private sector plays a key role in acceleration of the fastening. The new Playbook is informed of the perspectives of the WBCSD members and offers companies a holistic approach to overcoming challenges and implementation of effective fastening strategies and is also a valuable resource for political decision -makers, NROs and other interest groups that work to improve nutritional safety. The following elements are emphasized for knowledge in the entire industry:

  • Fundamentals for effective attachment: data -controlled strategies for identification in front of priority nutrients, to select suitable food vehicles and the introduction of consumers.
  • Scaling standards: Consideration of cost restrictions, political fragmentation and consumer consciousness gaps.
  • Successes: Cooperation with multi-stakeholders, politics and regulatory orientation and industry management.
  • Activation strategies: Effective communication, commitment of consumers and capacity structure in order to maintain long -term fastening efforts.

By ensuring access to essential nutrients through food fastening, cooperation in the value chain is required. At Tetra Pak, we endeavor to support our customers and work together in cooperation with partners to ensure access to a safe diet. By organizing our efforts, we can work together to develop enriched solutions that are both scalable and effective. This game book is a crucial step in aligning the industrial efforts and promoting sensible changes.

Driving campaign: the way forward

Since the global managers are preparing for the growth of 2025, the conversation is gained to improve food systems and public health in dynamics. The fastening is already recognized as a key lever in a holistic strategy to improve nutritional quality as well as for the safety of food and nutrition. The summit offers a valuable opportunity to highlight the necessary steps that are necessary to further accelerate progress, including strengthening the regulatory framework, increasing investments into the fortification initiatives and expanding consumer consciousness.

For those who want to have a concrete influence, the Playbook from WBCSD offers a starting point and best practice to improve fastening efforts and integrate them into a healthy, sustainable and just future. Through the collaboration, we can make attached foods more accessible and effective as part of a comprehensive approach to change food systems.
