Most coffee camerers contain additive and additional sugar, but there is a trendy and possibly healthier replacement: date caramel.
The recipe for the date caramel is simple. The viral TIKTOK version comprises 15 Medjool data with half a cup of coconut milk, a pinch of salt, vanilla expressra and a shot cinnamon, according to Stephani Johnson, DCN RDN, extraordinary professor of clinical and preventive nutritional sciences at Rutgers University School of Health.
People on social media say that it can be a better alternative to coffee cream to give a spoon with a spoon of the date caramel to their coffee. Is the date caramel actually healthier than traditional sweeteners?
Is date caramel healthier than coffee screamer?
The date caramel has a similar nutritional value as other coffee sweeteners, said Johnson, who estimated that two tablespoons of date caramel would contain:
- 108 calories
- 29 grams of carbohydrates, including 24 grams of sugar
- 3 grams fiber
- Minimum fat and protein
“This enables a simple comparison with traditional coffee creams and sweeteners and shows that the date caramel is similar to calories and sugar content as sugar and coffee syrup, but lower in fat than camers,” said Johnson.
Apart from the sugar content, the date caramel shines in data due to the nutrients.
“The data are packed with essential nutrients, including potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin B6 that support all heart, bones and brain health,” said Johnson.
The data is also rich in antioxidants – including flavonoids, carotenoids and phenolic acid – and these reduce the inflammation and protect their cells from oxidative stress, both of which in turn support their immune system.
In addition, the data is rich in fiber that strengthen the health of the intestine and slow the absorption of sugar in the body, said Rabia de Latour, MD, gastroenterologist and assistant professor at the Department of Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
“The best thing about dates is that, although they are rich in calories and cute, they don’t get their blood sugar levels after eating them like a chocolate bar [because] They have a low glycemic index, ”added de Latour.
Are there any disadvantages of caramel?
Although data is nutritious, you should not necessarily consider yourself a “healthier” date caramel than your favorite coffee add-ins.
“The term” healthy “often depends on portion sizes and when a certain meal fits the general diet and lifestyle of a person,” said Johnson.
“People with a higher risk of heart diseases may want to avoid the larger saturated fat content in half half, while those with diabetes should be careful before the high sugar content in date caramel and other coffee sweetness,” she added.
The sugar content is important to remember, especially if you drink several cups of coffee every day and get the habit of putting date caramel in everyone, said Johnson.
De Latour said, however, that there is a clear winner when the selection is between the caramel and sweetened coffee creator bought in the shop.
“The sugar [in dates] The fact that everyone maintains is natural sugar, which is why I would choose a date every day via a synthetic, processed whey, ”said de Latour.
What does this mean for you
A mixture of soaked dates and other frequent ingredients, which are referred to as “date caramel”, becomes a popular alternative to Coffee Creamer. While the date caramel offers some health benefits, it can also be sugar.
